Individual Psychotherapeutic Counselling

In Psychotherapeutic Counselling we try to keep our focus on a specific issue that is troubling you. Perhaps you are facing a significant challenge such as completing a course of study, making a life changing decision, or recovering from a life changing event. You may be grieving a loss of someone or something special. You may also be dealing with the unique circumstances created by coronavirus, whether you are experiencing isolation, overwhelm, fear or lack of personal space, we are all having to adjust. You do not have to do this alone.

With psychotherapeutic counselling the focus is often on receiving support for whatever is going on for you right now. I will help you to listen carefully to the whispering of your soul and to find your way to the centre of the labyrinth. I will support your work by drawing on relevant psychological theory such as that exploring concepts such as will-power, decision making, how to effect change, or perhaps stages of grieving and living with loss.  If it helps we can also structure our work around simple cognitive behaviour techniques (CBT), simplifying plans into smaller achievable steps. We may also use methods such as myth or story-telling, body awareness and psychological theory or our connection to the natural world (please see the Individual Psychotherapy page), but the emphasis in this work is for you to receive support to complete what you must.

What to expect.

If we choose to work together we will meet once a week, either in person in my therapy room in Headington or on-line, Sometimes in therapy we cry, rage or feel anxious. Sometimes we will feel quiet or distant. We may even laugh! All emotions have a place and are welcome, please bring them.

I charge £45 for an assessment session and then between £60-£70 thereafter. I have lower cost places available for those on a low household income, please ask if you would like to know more.

My role may be to accompany you, to support you, or to sit with you. Perhaps I will draw attention to a small unnoticed blossoming or shift in your thinking. Maybe I will challenge you (gently) or engage in the struggle with you. Hopefully you will feel seen, heard and met.

If you book an introductory meeting we will discuss what is troubling you, practical matters such as cancelling sessions and taking breaks and I will talk a little about my commitment to ethical practice and confidentiality.
